The biggest issue in Colombia is the bloodshed from narcotics trafficking. Indeed, narcotics trafficking has taken over 300 lives from this co-op since the 1990s from crossfire and young men joining the cartels as one of their only viable income alternatives.
This women's group's number one concern is that their kids stay in coffee and away from the cartels. The membership of the coop lives with constant death threats because they want to remove the coca plants and replace them with coffee. The local government is so corrupt that the producer group has become its own self-governing island in the chaos and corruption of the cartels and the government. Coffee is the sustainable alternative to the narcotics trade.

But it doesn’t work if the foods we create aren’t mouth-wateringly, plate-lickingly delicious. That’s why we work with our favorite chefs to create foods that we love to eat and share.
